CS2 Majors 2026: The Cathedral of Counter-Strike Gets Its Crown Back

Two Majors, Two Halves of the Year

Just like in previous years, the CS2 season is split into two halves, with Majors as the main events: IEM Cologne 2026 and PGL Major Singapore 2026. There will be a break between them, giving players time to rest and teams time to make roster changes.

The first half of the year builds toward the highly anticipated IEM Cologne Major in June. Following the summer break, the second season ramps up international competition, ending the year with the PGL Singapore Major stretching into December.

IEM Cologne Major: The Cathedral Finally Gets Its Crown

This is the big one. The IEM Cologne Major returns to Germany's LANXESS Arena, featuring 32 of the best teams in the world and a multi-stage Swiss format that culminates in intense playoff matches.

The cathedral of Counter-Strike hosts a CS2 Major in 2026 — the previous one in Cologne was in 2016, making this a decade-long homecoming. The trophy at IEM Cologne Major 2026 is extremely prestigious, as it's a way for pro teams to write their names down in history books.

The tournament takes place from June 2 to June 21, 2026, featuring 32 teams competing over a total prize pool of $1,250,000 USD

The Main Storyline: Can Vitality Win Three in a Row?

Team Vitality won two Majors in 2025, and claiming a third one would be a powerful statement — arguably the central intrigue of the entire 2026 CS2 season.

The tournament MVP of the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025 was Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut — his third Major MVP, further cementing his status as one of the greatest players in Counter-Strike history. These achievements highlighted ZywOo's decisive impact on Vitality's success and his ability to dominate on the biggest stage.

Standing in Vitality's way are the familiar faces of Team Spirit, FaZe Clan, NAVI, MOUZ, and The MongolZ — each carrying their own hunger for the trophy.

A Season Calendar Packed With Action

The 2026 CS2 calendar is stacked from January through December, with highlights including: BLAST Bounty Winter 2026 (January 22–25, Attard, Malta), IEM Krakow (February 28 – March 8), and PGL Cluj-Napoca 2026 (February 9–22) — with Cluj-Napoca being a particularly exciting addition for Eastern European fans.

The biggest Counter-Strike tournament of 2026 by prize money will be held in Riyadh at Boulevard Riyadh City, with 32 teams competing — most invited based on June VRS rankings, alongside the winner of the Asian Champions League and four open qualifier teams.

PGL Singapore Major: Counter-Strike Goes to Southeast Asia

Singapore will host the first-ever Counter-Strike Major in Southeast Asia, organized by PGL. Thirty-two of the world's top teams will compete, with the finals held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium

Major #2 is scheduled from November 25 to December 13 — a fitting end to what promises to be one of the most competitive CS2 seasons ever played.

Valve's New VRS System Changes Everything

The 2026 calendar looks a bit different this year due to Valve's massive changes to the competitive ecosystem.

Throughout the season, teams earn VRS points at tournaments, leagues, and major events, where placement, opponent strength, performance consistency, and event prestige are all taken into account. Based on this ranking, Valve distributes direct invitations to Majors and slots in closed regional qualifiers. The path to the Major no longer depends on partner leagues or Minors — only teams that consistently show the best results throughout the season qualify.

The result? Every single Tier 1 event in 2026 carries real consequences. There's no coasting, no skipping events — every point matters.

The Verdict: 2026 Is Counter-Strike's Biggest Year

With IEM Cologne finally returning as a Major after a decade, PGL taking the game to brand new territory in Singapore, Valve's VRS system forcing every team to show up every week, and Team Vitality chasing historic three-peat glory — 2026 is shaping up to be the most exciting Counter-Strike season ever played.

The cathedral is ready. The teams are hungry. And somewhere in Cologne, in June 2026, Counter-Strike history will be written.
