Call of Duty League Championship 2026: Black Ops 7, Las Vegas, and $2 Million on the Line

The Championship: Las Vegas, July 16–19

Taking place from July 16th to 19th at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, eight of the 12 franchises will compete at the season-ending event for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, with a $2 million prize pool up for grabs.

The sixth edition of CDL Championship Weekend will be hosted by the rebranded FaZe Vegas in Las Vegas — and in addition to Championship Weekend, Black Ops 7 will also feature at the Esports World Cup 2026 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as a separate event.

The Road to Champs: Four Majors Across Two Continents

Over the course of the year, four Major tournaments take place across North America and Europe, building toward Championship Weekend.

Major 1 — Dallas, Texas (January 29 – February 1): The opening Major of the 2026 CDL season took place in Dallas, Texas, with defending champions OpTic Texas on hosting duties at the Moody Coliseum — a $365,000 prize pool event that set the tone for the entire season.

Paris Gentle Mates won the opening Major of the year in Dallas, Texas — a stunning statement from the European franchise that immediately put the entire league on notice.

Major 2 — Birmingham, UK (March 27–29): For the first time in five years, the league returns to the UK as part of DreamHack Birmingham — a landmark homecoming for European Call of Duty fans who have long waited for a Major on home soil.

Major 3 — Atlanta, Georgia: Major 3 takes place in Atlanta, Georgia — a special Pro-Am event where Challengers teams will compete directly against the 12 CDL franchises, giving up-and-coming talent the ultimate proving ground.

Major 4 — Paris, France (June 25–28): The fourth and final Major of the Black Ops 7 season returns to Europe, with a high-stakes event in Paris, France that will determine final seeding heading into Championship Weekend.

A New Game Mode: Overload Replaces Control

The most significant gameplay change of the 2026 season is one that has divided the community. The most significant change to the CDL format is the removal of Control as its third game mode. Taking its place is Overload — a new objective game mode that features alongside Hardpoint and Search and Destroy.

After years of Control being a staple of competitive Call of Duty, the shift to Overload signals a new era for how professional CoD is played — and teams have had to completely rebuild their strategic playbooks around a game mode nobody had practiced at the professional level before.

The Defending Champions: OpTic Texas — Can They Three-Peat?

The $2 million prize pool is the same amount that was up for grabs at 2025's CDL Championship, which saw OpTic Texas emerge victorious in the Grand Final, winning $800,000 along with the CDL trophy.

OpTic arriving in 2026 as back-to-back champions makes them the target every team in the league is gunning for. A three-peat would cement them as the greatest dynasty in CDL history — but Paris Gentle Mates' Major 1 victory has already shown the field is hungry, talented, and perfectly capable of dethroning the kings of Texas.

Cloud9 New York's Dramatic Roster Reset

The most dramatic storyline of the early season came from an unexpected source. Cloud9 New York imploded after a disastrous last-place finish at Major 1 — the organization took the radical step of dissolving the entire roster, with a deadline of February 9th to assemble a completely new five-man lineup. Not an easy task.

It's the kind of high-stakes organizational drama that makes CDL storylines riveting far beyond the matches themselves.

New Operators: ESL FACEIT Group and FaZe Esports

This year's CDL Championship is jointly operated by ESL FACEIT Group (EFG) and FaZe Esports — a powerful collaboration bringing two of esports' most experienced event operators together for the biggest CoD weekend of the year.

The Challengers Circuit: More Open Than Ever

The grassroots scene receives its biggest overhaul in years. The CDL Challengers circuit has been completely redesigned for 2026 — featuring an Open LAN event at each of the four Majors alongside four Elite seasons for each region. Crucially, the Middle East will also feature in the Challengers circuit, integrating with Europe to give players from the region an official competitive platform for the first time.

The Format: Only Eight Teams Make Champs

Of the 12 CDL franchises competing throughout the regular season, only the top eight earn the right to set foot in Las Vegas. The Stage 2 Major Qualifiers feature all 12 teams battling through six weeks of online competition  — with every win and every loss carrying direct consequences for Championship qualification.

The pressure of the CDL format is relentless by design. There is no safety net, no second chance — and for the four franchises that fall short of Champs, an entire season of work ends without a shot at the ultimate prize.

The Verdict: The CDL's Most Unpredictable Season Yet

The Call of Duty League 2026 season has already delivered drama, upsets, and a new game mode that has reshuffled the competitive hierarchy from day one. Paris Gentle Mates opening the year with a Major win. Cloud9 New York imploding and rebuilding entirely. OpTic Texas carrying the weight of back-to-back championships into a season where every opponent is motivated to dethrone them.

July 16–19, 2026. Michelob Ultra Arena. Las Vegas. $2 million. Eight teams. One champion.
