The Tournament of the Year: First Stand 2026
Held between
March 16 and 22 at the Riot Games Arena in São Paulo, First Stand 2026 represented the first major international clash of the League of Legends esports season, bringing together the best teams from all major regions around the world.
The tournament featured a total prize pool of $1 million and used the Fearless Draft format, a system in which champions played in previous matches of a series cannot be selected again. This encouraged broader champion pools and more creative drafting throughout best-of-five series.

The Final: BLG vs G2 — A Masterclass in Dominance
Europe's G2 Esports managed to hold their own only in the first game. In Game 1, Rasmus "Caps" Winther on Aurora handed Bin's Gnar his first loss of 2026 (previously sitting at an 8-0 record across 9 matches), keeping the series level.
From there, however, BLG took complete control. In Game 2, the Chinese team's well-constructed draft allowed Gwen to dominate early, while BLG's bot lane won the 2v2 matchup with ease. Game 3 was a one-sided stomp from start to finish: three lanes simultaneously won by the LPL champions left G2 with no real path to victory. Game 4 ended in under 30 minutes — BLG stole Baron and closed out the game through the bot lane, leaving Europe with no answer.
Bin was named the MVP of the final.
A Painful Record for G2
With this defeat, G2 Esports become the first organization in history to lose the grand final across all three major international competitions: Worlds 2019 (0-3 against FunPlus Phoenix), MSI 2017 (1-3 against T1), and now First Stand 2026. A record no European fan ever wanted to see.
The Message Sent to the World
The LPL sent a clear message to the entire competitive scene: China is once again at the top of League of Legends on the international stage.
Beyond the trophy, the victory also brings major strategic benefits. The winning region receives a direct bye into the bracket stage of the Mid-Season Invitational 2026, to be held in Daejeon, South Korea, skipping the Play-In stage entirely.
A Celebration for Brazil
The event went beyond the walls of the arena. Riot Games turned the day of the final into a community celebration through Runeterra Fan Fest, held on March 22 at the Visual Farm Gymnasium in São Paulo. Fans in attendance were able to watch the final live and explore gaming stations featuring Teamfight Tactics, League of Legends, 2XKO, and Wild Rift, alongside cosplayers, a local artist gallery, and exclusive merchandise.
First Stand 2026 proved that esports is no longer just a sport for small screens — it is a global spectacle that fills arenas and ignites passions across every continent.
